This article discusses diversity because it concerns two minority groups. An African American legislator made a comment in a video about a Jewish family that upset the jewish community. He came forth and apologized it but I think it prompts an interesting conversation about holding yourself accountable. Of course people make mistakes and say things that they do not understand to be wrong or harmful but other people can interpret them as so. I find it interesting because someone who is a part of one minority group makes a comment about another member of a different minority group. I see people use their "get out of jail free card" all the time. So many people say "I can say that because I....." and this is wrong. I think it is important to be aware of everyones differences and be empathetic, equal, and kind to everyone regardless of their differences. You do not get a "get out of jail free card" on being aware of different minorities just because you are a minority. I do not get to be unaware of other groups struggles just because I am a woman and no one else can be unaware of them because they are Jewish or Asian American or what have you. I do not think the gentleman in this story meant to be hurtful or mean I just think he did not think but regardless this brings important topics to light. This is an important reminder to constantly be aware and think of what you say and think about what impact your words and actions have on other people.
